چکیده
Material and methods Four geldings in a Latin Square design were fed 4 diets: (H) timothy hay, (OB) whole oats and molassed sugar beet pulp (Betfor), (BB) whole barley and Betfor, chaff based concentrate (M). Starch did not exceed 1 g starch per kg BW per meal. The horses were fasted 8 hours prior to sampling. Blood was drawn via jugular vein puncture into heparinized vacutainer tubes at time 0 before the morning meal and again at time (min) 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105, 120, 135, 150, 165, 180, 210, 240, 270, 330, 390, 450, 510, 570 post feeding. Immediately after sampling, the tubes were centrifuged; plasma was harvested and stored at -20 °C. Blood plasma was analysed for insulin and glucose. Feeds were analysed for dietary fibre, non-starch polysaccharides, soluble non-cellulosic polysaccharides and NDF.

The effect of mixing and changing the order of feeding oats and chopped alfalfa to horses on: glycaemic and insulinaemic responses, and breath hydrogen and methane production.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of feeding oats alone before or after feeding chopped alfalfa or, in admixture with the alfalfa on the glycaemic and insulinaemic responses of horses as well as post-prandial breath hydrogen and methane excretion. Horses were fed in a randomized order, chopped alfalfa as a source of dietary fibre and unprocessed oats as a source of starch. Ch...
متن کاملGlycaemic and insulinemic response to dietary carbohydrates in horses
BACKGROUND Dietary sugar and starch affect plasma glucose and insulin concentrations. Little information is available about the effect of dietary fibre on plasma glucose and insulin concentration. It is hypothesized that different dietary fibre compositions will alter post-prandial glycaemic- and insulinemic index of test meals. The objective was to measure postprandial glucose and insulin conc...
متن کاملSystematic Review A systematic review of the influence of rice characteristics and processing methods on postprandial glycaemic and insulinaemic responses
Rice is an important staple food for more than half of the world’s population. Especially in Asian countries, rice is a major contributor to dietary glycaemic load (GL). Sustained consumption of higher-GL diets has been implicated in the development of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus. Given that a reduction in postprandial glycaemic and insulinaemic responses is generally seen...

متن کاملInfluence of particle size and sources of non-starch polysaccharides on postprandial glycaemia, insulinaemia and triacylglycerolaemia in pigs and starch digestion in vitro.
Physico-chemical properties of dietary fibres might be involved in metabolic control, particularly of the postprandial blood glucose response. The aim of the present study was to look at the effects of the content of soluble fibres and of the particle size of solid fibres on in vitro and in vivo starch hydrolysis and on the subsequent glucose absorption as well as the triacylglycerolaemia. Two ...
